Sadly, our run back in May 2011 was our last.
Please read the following letter which sets out the reasons behind this.
Thank-you
Dear All.
The whole team behind the Run4fun4men would just like to express our thanks to all of those who took part in the 10 events over the last 10 years. It has been a privilege to be involved in the run and witness the hundreds of men and boys taking part in order to raise funds for Cancer research. We always felt that it was a community event for all the family and this was borne out by the support from all of the Dads, Grandads and boys of all ages who participated. The support of Alberto Culver meant a great deal to the team not only with sponsorship but with their army of volunteers on the day that came along and organised the finishing funnels efficiently. We are grateful to John and Linda and their team for their unerring support over the last nine years, which has resulted in every penny paid into the event from the participants being sent to Cancer Research UK for research into men’s cancers. We would also like to thank the team of volunteers who volunteered every year to staff the course without whom the event could not have been run. We also must thank our media partners Kestrel Radio and the Basingstoke Gazette without whom the event would not have been the success it was.
As a fund raising team we feel that the time has come to move on from the event with the loss of our main sponsor Alberto Culver and the reduction in numbers participating in the event. When we started the run it was unusual but now although there are not any other male only runs there are many other charity events available to participate in. We never wanted the event to compete with local charities and feel that if we continue in the current economic climate there will be an impact on those local charities working hard to raise funds for local people.
We are very proud of what we have accomplished as a team over the past 10 years. We could not have achieved it all without the support of all of the people who signed up to run, So thank you to everyone who has helped in any way over the last 10 years.
The event this year although with smaller numbers has managed to raise £16870.15 so far, if you have not yet sent in your sponsorship it is not too late.
Jan and June and the Run4fun4men Team.
